They Pollute.You Pay.

People Over Polluters: No on the CalChamber Initiative.

What's at stake

Three reasons to vote no.

Follow the Money

Polluting industries, for-profit utilities, and luxury developers are spending millions to pass this initiative to increase their profits — while the rest of us pay.

Less Accountability = Higher Taxpayer Costs

This initiative lets deep-pocketed developers call the shots. With no way to force industries to prevent pollution, taxpayers will have to pay to clean up their mess.

Clean Water & Clean Air at Risk

This initiative makes it easier for industry to pollute with little oversight, and makes it harder for communities to improve harmful projects.

Covered projects

This initiative allows developers to call the shots on a wide range of consequential projects with little input from the public.

Covered projects could include:

  • Data centers*
  • Freeway expansions
  • Dairy biogas digesters
  • Landfill gas facilities
  • Biomass power plants
  • Dams
  • Waste incinerators
  • CO₂ pipelines

*Legal scholar Eric Biber of UC Berkeley Law writes that data centers could fall within the Initiative's expansive project definitions.

From the coalition

Don't let the smoke and mirrors deceive you. [This initiative]…strips families of the strongest tool they have to protect their kids from toxic projects next door.
